In our rapidly-growing world, our human civilization continues to evolve without a long-term plan, prioritizing immediate needs over future consequences. As generations come and go, our human-built structures become artifacts of our past. It is with the utilization of these liminal spaces that my photographs seek to capture the poetry and beauty of our existence, despite the potential harm caused by our “abrasive” human element. By drawing attention to everyday objects through photographs that are often overlooked or disregarded, this project highlights the visual impact of urbanization, particularly in areas I find of interest throughout Lawrence, Kansas. Through Silent Observations, my intention is not to criticize society, but rather to encourage introspection and reflection on our relationship with the world around us.
